Regulation (EU) 528/2012 BPR
Regulation on Biocidal Products (BPR) (EU) №528/2012 regulates the placing on the EU market and the use of biocidal products used to protect humans, animals, materials or products from harmful organisms such as parasites or bacteria, with using the active substances contained in such biocidal products. The BPR regulation aims to improve the functioning of the EU biocidal products market by ensuring a high level of protection for humans and the environment.
The BPR Regulation entered into force in the EU on 22 May 2012 and repealed the Biocidal Products Directive №98 /8/EU.
From 1 September 2013, all producers / importers of biocides in the EU have to start the procedure for obtaining an authorization for placing of biocidal products on the market. Also, the relevant active substances in the biocidal product must be approved by the competent authorities of the EU Member States and the ECHA Committee, or their equivalence to the already approved active substances have to be proven. According to the submitted applications, a list of approved active substances and their suppliers has been formed. From September 2015, companies not included in this list will not have the right to place on market biocidal products.
